By way of background, both our mothers lived in retirement communities and were so happy to have done so.  It also gave us peace of mind.

When we moved to the Cape from Philadelphia, where Independent Living Communities had long waiting lists, we started a search for our sometime-in-the-future home.  We discovered Heatherwood early in this process and looked also at many other facilities over the years, none of which measured up to what we saw here at Heatherwood.

Fifteen years later we were ready to make the transition to Independent Living and have been delighted with every Heatherwood experience since our move. The dining room staff always seated us with interesting people so we were never dining alone.  We soon got involved in activities such as the Heatherwood chorus, the Follies, the exercise classes, coffee in the mornings, BYOB cocktail gatherings, and our community garden.  We’ve also enjoyed the entertainment and parties provided by Heatherwood, and golf right here in the Kings Way community.  We still travel as much as possible and Heatherwood makes it so easy to simply close the door, knowing that any problems will be managed in our absence.

We’re so glad we made the move and want to add praise to all the Heatherwood staff who make our life here so agreeable.

We can never sufficiently thank a neighbor for telling us about Heatherwood.  The condos are spacious with private decks from which to enjoy the beautifully maintained grounds.  Amenities include a variety of menu choices in the glamorous dining room or garden patio, exercise classes, woodworking shop, evening musical performances, trips to cultural and historic sites, ball games, and shopping.

The staff is very friendly, always helpful beyond expectations and the residents, welcoming, kind, thoughtful people, will become friends very quickly.

Here we have retirement living at its very best.  Very quickly Heatherwood became our home.

In the spring of 2015 my wife and I, both retired and in our early 70s, decided to move from our central Massachusetts home, hopefully to a smaller house on Cape Cod. We hadn’t really considered any kind of a senior living complex, but we happened upon an advertisement of available units at Heatherwood and decided to take a look. We were instantly impressed with the size, design, and quality of the living areas, in addition to the setting and ambiance of the entire complex.

Marketing Director Cheryl Knott patiently explained Heatherwood’s many impressive features, services, and its enjoyable lifestyle for independent seniors, and we soon became happy new residents. We found immediate and wonderful acceptance by all the other residents and quickly made many new friends. They, and all the supportive staff members, provided confirmation that we had chosen the right place to live. We have great meals, entertainment programs, scheduled housekeeping. There’s a summer pool, beautiful patio area, a garden plot, and available golf course. Fabulous local restaurants, too. It’s hard to imagine any better place for active independent seniors to live.

In searching for our next-stage-of-life home, Heatherwood met all the important criteria:

  • ownership, providing a governance structure for shared decision-making and the ability to make interior renovations;
  • a strong history of superior management;
  • location in the beautiful mid-Cape area with easy access for on- and off-Cape activities; and
  • a full array of activities from which to pick and choose.

Even so, we quickly learned that Heatherwood’s major strength is the people – residents and staff at all levels.  There’s a commitment here to respecting and supporting each other, and pride in the community we all share.

Life at Heatherwood is what we all hope for – comfort and safety in our own home. Beautiful surroundings, delicious food shared with many friends, interesting activities to enjoy all designed to make our leisure time relaxing, creative and fun.
